Happy Summer Vacation! Here is what to look for....

As you head into a restful, adventure-filled summer, please note the following items to look for or take note of:

  • Summer socials for each grade will be taking place in July or August. If you would like to host, please send an email to Mrs. Johnson at jjohnson@dvclassical.org.
  • An email is coming regarding summer reading, report cards, classroom supplies for 24-25, and other important information.
  • For those enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year, there will be a 5% pull on June 17 for tuition. Payment plans for the 24-25 school year begin in July.
  • If you are interested in being a mentor family for a new family, look for an email this month.

Silas Hauser, Jono McGarvey, and Josiah Deitrich - All-Conference MIL Players

The Titans baseball season came to an end in mid-May.  The post season brought about recognition from the Mid-Atlantic Independent League (MIL).  Three Titans were recognized:  Silas Hauser, Jono McGarvey, and Josiah Deitrich.  These three were kind enough to answer a few questions on the way out to summer break!

Congratulations Silas, Jono, and Josiah.  Silas, what was your greatest improvement as a baseball player from last year to this year?

Silas: For me, it was my composure.
Jono: My greatest improvement from last year to this year would have to be my batting. I went from getting maybe one hit in two years to three hits in one game this year.
Josiah: Probably just my game IQ and know what the situation is and what’s about to happen.

Give the Titan community a meaningful moment from the baseball season.

Silas: It wasn’t really meaningful, but it was the time when Jonathan swung early on a pitch from the D1 commit from Tome.
Jono: I think for  me it was our second game against Tri-State. We were resuming from a rain delay. I ended up getting three hits in that game which was the best batting performance I’ve ever had.
Josiah: Senior night was a special game and victory against Chestertown.

Name a teammate who surprised you this spring?

Silas: Jonathan surprised me because this was his first year in varsity baseball, and he was one of our best infielders.
Jono: Seth Corbett surprised me this spring. Going into this year after missing last year due to an injury, he was doing really well. He even hit a homerun in practice! He was consistently a good batter and pitcher, and it was really impressive to watch him after missing last season.
Josiah: Yeah, Seth came back after being injured last year and had a very strong season.

What did you learn about leadership this spring?

Silas: I learned to keep the team spirit high. Don’t let the team down.
Jono: Having a lot of young players this season, there was definitely a need for leadership. I joined the seniors in leading stretches, which really prepared me for being a possible captain next year. Leadership is not just about telling others what to do but living out that example yourself.
Josiah: Even when you’re down, you can’t show it because the rest of the team follows your example.

What excites you about summer time?  Traveling?  What does a typical summer day look like?

Silas: Having a lot of free time and going to my grandparents’ house near the beach. To me a typical summer day is having a nice breakfast in the morning, chill out, then go outside and play a game, then watch/play baseball.
Jono: I’m excited to just be out of school this summer. To have those late mornings and late summer nights. I’m looking forward to going to the Poconos for our family vacation in July. Other than that I’ll just be working.
Josiah: I can’t wait for vacation in Florida. I usually sleep in and then play some music, and I always love hanging out with friends.

Guys, good job.  Keep the reps coming, grow as leaders, and dream big.  Titans workouts will be happening in June.

New Family Orientation

Every summer, each class hosts a summer social that allows them to reconnect during summer vacation or meet a new member of the class.

The social should involve an activity (from playing at a park to go-kart racing and everthing in between). The cost to participate should be minimal to none, but the host may want to create a sign up of items to bring.

Socials are best held between July 10 and August 15.

If you would like to host one of these socials, please email jjohnson@dvclassical.org.  Thank you!

Recycling Program

Along with the daily recycling at school of paper, cans, etc., the National Honor Society (NHS) is launching another recycling program next school year. (See allowances below.)

If you do any de-cluttering this summer and come across any of the items, please throw them in a box to bring to school – either during the summer or when we return (shhh…I didn’t really say that!)
