In classical education, students study musical and dramatic works throughout their years at DVCS. They practice public speaking skills through poetry recitations, dramatic readings, debate, and classroom presentations and have the opportunity to participate in musical theater. Musical theater integrates music literacy, voice, acting, and dance and offers a creative approach for students to think, communicate, and achieve while engaging and enriching the broader community. The theater production is an extracurricular activity that follows the winter activity schedule and is available for students in 6th-12th grades.

Past performances include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and The Sound of Music.

We do not seek to satisfy worldly values: mandated federal test scores, personal achievement, or the ever shifting cultural codes of conduct and belief. At DVCS, we labor towards the prize of preparing your child for every duty and calling the Lord has for them. Our annual Fine Arts: Poetry and Prose Symposium is just one example of many ways we work toward that end. Every year, DVCS students in grades 1-12 memorize and recite increasingly difficult selections of classic poetry or prose before an audience and a panel of judges. Year after year, they are coached to develop in their confidence and ability to present with effective eye contact, platform presence, tone, voice projection, diction, gesture, and expression.

DVCS is intentional in preparing your child to be a confident communicator of what is true, good, and beautiful.
