GRAMMAR SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Summary

Delaware Valley Classical School is a K–12 classical Christian school of about 225 students in New Castle, Delaware, with a 32-year heritage. The Westminster Confession and Catechisms summarize the school’s doctrine, though its families come from Presbyterian, Baptist, Catholic, Orthodox, Coptic, and non-denominational churches. In the grammar school, students learn phonics, grammar, history, and math facts through song and motion, write in cursive, begin Latin in 3rd grade, practice public speaking, and spend a phone-free day with limited technology. Older students disciple the younger ones, and singing is taught as preparation for worship, which is how each school day begins.

The Grammar School Principal leads kindergarten through 6th grade. The current principal is retiring after a long tenure at the school, and her successor will inherit an experienced, stable faculty that includes several alumni. The next principal will guide the grammar school through its current season of curricular work, coach teachers in classical pedagogy, and help families understand how a classical education forms their children’s souls and deepens their love for Christ.

ART AND AESTHETICS TEACHER

DV Classical seeks a Logic & Rhetoric School (Grades 7-12) Art teacher able to foster the wonder and creativity of his/her students and then channel that wonder into a commitment to technical skill and mastery. His/her knowledge of classical forms and artistic movements informs his/her teaching and inspires his/her vision for classical, Christian artists who take the Creation Mandate seriously. He/she recognizes that his/her students are responsible for creating in the image of their Creator. He/she embraces a generational view of his/her role, knowing that even the most committed Christians (including colleagues) may need great help understanding the importance of art in the Christian life, and that reclaiming a right understanding of art within the Church and classical education may take generations. The ideal art teacher seeks to be a thought and vision partner with a classical, Christian school which aims to foster that right understanding and works alongside parents in making art an important part of their daily lives. While this listing is part-time only, DV Classical desires to transition it to a full-time position in the 2027-2028 school year.
